How often do you think actors manage to get roles in shows just because they came into the audition complaining their heads off?

Probably not many. But according to a story by SindhToday.net that’s exactly what Felicity Huffman did, and she landed the role of Lynette Scavo in Desperate Housewives.

According to an interview with Huffman she entered the audition having had a stressful day dealing with her children and started to vent, ever so slightly, at the producers - which is, apparently, exactly what they were looking for. Scavo is a frustrated mom in the show, after all, and that’s just the angle they were looking for in an actress.

So there you go, wannabe actors. Get some kids and get frustrated by them. Maybe they’ll help you land your next big role.

Transamerica is an independent 2005 comedy drama starring Felicity Huffman.

Huffman plays the role of Bree, a transsexual woman on a road trip with her son Toby. Toby had been jailed and was searching for his father to bail him out; however Bree, who is one week away from having a vaginoplasty, wants to disown the boy. Her therapist forces her to face up to her past, however, before the operation can be carried through.

Bree locates Toby and travels with him, pretending to be a female missionary; however this ruse doesn’t last forever, and Toby learns through several mishaps that Bree is actually his father. Toby doesn’t care that Bree is a transsexual - he’s surprisingly open-minded - but he’s angry that his father couldn’t admit the truth, and they separate.

Eventually, after Bree has had her surgery and Toby gets into gay pornograph, the two meet again and reconcile, having found a measure of respect for one another.

Though it received only limited release Transamerica was critically lauded for treating a difficult topic in a respectable - if somewhat unorthodox - light.

No, Marcia Huffman is not some kind of lovechild created between Desperate Housewives co-stars Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross. The term does, however, quite succinctly explain a brief pairing the two shared at the GLAAD awards in 2005.

Huffman and Cross appeared on-stage at the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation awards ceremony to present a joint speech; before they could start, however, Huffman latched herself onto Cross’ face for a brief but obviously notable kiss. Never one to spoil the moment, Cross not only returned the favor but looked ready to start another one.

Naturally news spread quickly, and the video of the kiss appeared like wildfire on internet sites everywhere. And, since it’s obviously a hot topic for males and females everywhere (you can’t deny that they’re both gorgeous women, after all), the movie is still quite easy to find.

Why, look at that. It’s right there. Have a look for yourself at the infamous kiss.

On it she played Julia Wilcox, a no-nonsense finance reporter for Frasier’s radio station. Newly arrived to the station she makes enemies quickly, Frasier in particular; and in a moment of heated argument where Frasier suddenly finds himself desiring her, she rebuffs him. This move forces the entire station to attend a seminar on sexual harassment.

Nevertheless Wilcox does warm up to Frasier after he confronts her lover with the fact that he is married without letting Wilcox know. She overhears this and considers him somewhat gallant for it. But her booris attitude persists, and after she snubs the rest of his family Frasier decides to part ways with Wilcox.

Wilcox appears in eight Frasier episodes.

Lynette Scavo’s mother, Stella Wingfield, was a later addition to the cast of Desperate Housewives. She appeared in the season three finale, where viewers learn that Scavo has been diagnosed with Hodgkins’ lymphoma.

The mother of three daughters – Lynette, Lucy and Lydia – Stella was an abusive mother. She took drugs and drank profusely, turning her subsequent anger on her three daughters. Ever the poor role model, she was prone to bringing strange men home with her quite often. She was also known to disappear, leaving Lynette to raise her two younger sisters on her own.

She returned to Lynette’s life when Lynette’s husband, Tom, called her up and asked for money to pay for chemotherapy treatments for Lynette. Stella thereupon vowed to remain by her daughter’s side until the cancer had abated, as she had previously survived breast cancer herself. Because of the trauma of the cancer and Stella’s support, mother and daughter reconcile over time.

Lynette Scavo, played by the esteemed actress Felicity Huffman, is one of the leading ladies in the award-winning Desperate Housewives.

Aged 45, Scavo is a harried housewife at the beginning of the series. She’s forced to deal with a husband who is seldom home – thanks to his job – and has to cope with playing mother to three boys with ADHD and a daughter. She doesn’t know how to act the role at first, and contemplates suicide (much like her now-dead friend, Mary Alice Young, whose death is the primary mystery of the first season).

Over the next few seasons she experiences any number of-family related troubles, particularly with husband Tom who she thinks is cheating on her. Possibly from the stress of dealing with her husband, children and deciding whether or not she should go back to her career, Lynette Scavo is diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

By the fourth season Scavo is discovered by her fellow housewives to be bald because of chemotherapy treatments.
